Pre-Treatment Program

The Lake Stevens Sewer District is now required by the EPA and the Washington State Department of Ecology to institute a Wastewater Pre-Treatment Program.  All commercial and industrial establishments that discharge water into the District’s collection system are required to participate.  This program is intended to save your business and the District the substantial costs of fixing and cleaning up sewage back-ups, as well as protecting our eco-system for many years to come.

Phase I of this program is dedicated to the management of Fats Oils and Grease (F.O.G.).  F.O.G. is a major source of pipe blockages and sewage backups.  Examples include kitchen cooking grease, vegetable oils, bacon grease, meat fats, food wastes, gravy, sauces, baked goods, cheeses, butter, dressings, etc.  The cost for emergency maintenance for these backups can have large financial impacts on everyone affected, as well as health and business losses.  One of the primary goals of this program is designed to eliminate discharges of F.O.G. into the sewage collection system, as man

dated by our sewer use ordinance, the EPA and the Washington State Department of Ecology.
